Το Πεκίνο σημείωσε πως, σε αντίθεση με τα όσα είχε ισχυριστεί ο Τραμπ (διαδίδοντας έναν μύθο που κυκλοφορούσε στις ΗΠΑ), οι αμερικανικές κυβερνήσεις είχαν αρχίσει να ασχολούνται με το ζήτημα πολύ πριν τις κινεζικές ηγεσίες.
Στο παρελθόν, ο Τραμπ είχε υποστηρίζει πως η κλιματική αλλαγή ήταν «μύθευμα» που δημιούργησε υστερόβουλα η Κίνα.
